Who we are, what we do and the impact we make.
The goal of the foundation
In the 1980s, the successors to the Cesra Arzneimittel GmbH company founder resolved to channel the company’s revenue entirely into social projects, setting up the “Redel Foundation” in 1988 as a result which advocates for charitable projects.
Setting up the foundation involved transferring Cesra GmbH company revenue to the Redel Foundation, which means the Redel Foundation owns Cesra Arzneimittel GmbH.
What makes Cesra so special as a pharmaceutical company is that revenues are not only invested in the company’s future viability, but also channelled through the foundation to directly support charitable projects.
By reinvesting a share of its revenue, the foundation-owned company is able to strengthen its market position, develop sales and increase the distribution of revenues to foundation projects in the long term.
The foundation is supervised by the Karlsruhe regional council, with the main bodies of the foundation comprising the board of directors and advisory board.
With an administrative expense ratio of less than 1%, it is one of the most effectively run charitable foundations in Germany.
The exertion of third-party influence over decisions made by the foundation by those outside the appointed board of management, as is often the case in family foundations, does not apply to the Redel Foundation.
This means that more than 99% of the funds are channelled exclusively into charitable projects that aim to help those who have been affected by disaster.
The foundation’s Board
Jürgen Lieser and Martin Schröder, both Redel Foundation board members, have been passionately involved in the foundation for years.
This primarily involves the careful selection of projects that embody the purpose of the foundation, control over how the funds are used, as well as a full and fair disclosure of all reporting obligations. The board members are in regular contact with the advisory board and with Cesra Arzneimittel, exchanging ideas for new projects or determining funding amounts.

Cesra
Since 1929, Cesra Arzneimittel GmbH from Baden-Baden, which includes company subsidiary “ocean pharma”, has been a recognised manufacturer of herbal medicines and medical cosmetics. The name “Cesra” has always represented our passion to help others, as well as the company’s origins in our home town of Rastatt in the south-west of Germany.
“Cesra” stands for “Corpus Sanum Rastatt” or “Healthy Body Rastatt”.
The focus at Cesra is on a healthy mind and body. The company has been selling sustainable medicines and medical cosmetics for decades now, all of which are based on natural active ingredients and components that harness the self-healing powers of nature.
With the establishment of the Redel Foundation, Cesra’s passion for helping others has manifested itself on two fronts: by providing natural products for patients all over the world and using our revenue to assist people in need, particularly the victims of natural disasters.
The Redel Foundation and Cesra GmbH have joined forces to create a synergy alliance focused on helping everybody.
