Family coach – supporting the integration of women and families who have fled their homes
For over 20 years, the district of Briegelacker has been at the heart of the multicultural “Briegelackerstraße” neighbourhood. It is a place of refuge for many children, young people and families from the community. The main goal of the work carried out here is their integration.
In addition to the day care centre and the open child and youth work, the work with women and families is becoming an increasingly important part of the centre’s overall concept. In recent years, the services offered in this area have been largely expanded. Due to the refugee crisis, many women and families have arrived in Baden-Baden in the last few years, or have come to join others already there. These people are often completely lost when they arrive and they have no real social connection. Especially when it comes to settling into their own home, support is greatly appreciated, especially when it comes to children and the family.
As part of the “Familiencoach” (Family coach) project, an employee from the district of Briegelacker is specifically appointed as coordinator for the women and children who have fled their homeland. In addition to low-threshold advice on topics specific to women and their families, such as development checks for children, nutrition, childcare for pre-school children, parenting advice, there is also assistance aimed primarily at mothers. Regular or selective services are provided in addition to those already mentioned and include, for example, playgroups for mothers and small children, parent cafés, information events, offers and events for mothers (e.g. relaxation courses, baby and child first-aid courses, etc.) The courses are also open to women from the local population, with the aim of encouraging contact and supporting integration efforts.
