Columbia
Support for disadvantaged children and young people
The district of Santa Fé at the heart of Bogotá in Columbia is marred by drug trafficking, addiction problems, prostitution, social exclusion and a very high level of domestic violence.
The district continues to be a destination for those internally displaced, who generally find accommodation in rented premises. Entire families often live together in just one room. There are virtually no recreational activities or places for the children and young people to go. With support from Caritas international, the “PROCREAR” organisation runs a community centre in the district of Santa Fé, which also houses the “El Parche” drop-in centre and provides schooling for children and young people from the area.
Various educational opportunities and childcare services are offered at this centre, which also employs social workers and psychologists. Streetwork services provide sex workers and the homeless with support.
The Redel Foundation is supporting this project with €60,000.
